TOP: YES4FUTURE Training Program for TeachersProgram Activities

Program Activities Under current situation in Hebron where children have to live with constant instability and limitation of their movement, they are easily stressed out. It is also difficult for them to develop their capacities, such as imagination and communication skills.
In this program, PB will promote drama education to Palestinian people as a tool to effectively support such children. By so doing, PB hopes more and more Palestinians will be aware of the importance of support for stressed children.

Like any other conflict area, children have been severely stressed out by the unstable political situation, because they have to live under constant tension of possible strife.

According to United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), unemployment rate in the occupied Palestinian territories is 22.8%. Since the rate in Gaza Strip must be much higher, the rate in the West Bank should be lower than the figure. Nevertheless, comparing to developed countries like Japan, the figure is very high.

High unemployment rate means economic condition for many households are very bad. This means many children may have had to give up their education because their families cannot afford paying school fees. High unemployment rate also means that they have very limited chance to get jobs even though they graduate universities. Furthermore, they are always worried about the sudden change of political situation, which may force them to stay in their houses, at where they have no alternative to kill times but by watching TV.

Under such circumstances, it is very difficult for youth and children to have a long time planning for their future because there are so many factors beyond their control. In addition, Hebron area is known to be very conservative society, in which youth and children have limited opportunities to express themselves freely.

In order to meet the challenges explained above, PB aims to promote drama therapy, so that the children will:
*have a tool to express themselves freely;
*acquire abilities to overcome, with creativity, various difficulties awaiting their future, and;
*believe themselves to have enough ability to change their future.

In "Drama Therapy", youth and children can freely express themselves in the safe "play ground" made by virtual world trough drama. In this program, PB is organizing workshops for school teachers, social workers and staff members of Community Based Organizations (CBO) who directly communicate with children who need psychological support.

Participants of the workshops come from various places of Hebron area, so that the impact of the program will spread throughout the Governorate. In the workshop, the participants learn basic techniques of Drama Therapy, so that they can use technique they acquire in the workshops at their daily contact with the children and reduce children's stress.

In Total, 9to 10 workshops each for 10 different groups (total 90 to 100 workshops) are planned until November 2012.
After PB publicized about the workshops via Education Ministry of the Hebron Governorate, as of April 2012, more than 100 teachers, social workers and CBO staff members expressed their willingness to participate in the workshop.
