TOHOKU EARTHQUAKE /TSUNAMI DISASTER
PB's humanitarian assistance will go on following our teams first field operation for distribution of the most needed items in Iwaki city of Fukushima and Kitaibaragi city of Ibaragi. Notably in some places in Fukushima, there is still bottlenecked road and network for logistics due to issues related to the nuclear power plant therein.
The centre in Iwaki city is set approx,.50km away from the plant, although its northern tip is partly zoned within the so called evacuation limit of 30km as required by ordinances.
Disrupted logistic network has then generated severe shortage in labor/services and fuel oil making distribution of goods to the populations from temporary stock points an extremely difficult task.
One must be always well aware that there are mostly two types of population(victims of disaster) who can visit points of stock and pick up supplies, and who can in no way come and pick them up. Our PB staff observed that for those who can not, church people/stuff therein are helping.
Together with the church people, our staff members handed out supplies visiting every and each of those individual houses(most of people are elderly) in Kitaibaragi city who are set isolated from bulk supply lines after delivery of warm clothing to people in Iwaki city. (refer the photo hereunder, showing steep climb!!)
The elderly population who were safe despite such tsunami disaster, now faces disrupted/shredded lifelines i,e, tap water and electricity. Notably enough, most of them live on the coastal fishery who tend to be free from restrictions and pose to be strong independence. We all must know local things and characters of people, cultures traditions.: as an old proverb provides Do in Rome as Romans do.
For this, we, Peacebuilders honor local spirit and things through carefully coordinated work with local government offices and stakeholders concerned.
The said harmful rumors spread in and out the city of Iwaki and elsewhere at a time appears to have been phased out before this week, PB now moves heading toward the northern coastal areas on the Pacific. Like for instance, two of our staff are currently on the frontline in Sendai city, Miyagi pref. where many of the national NGOs got their bases to take part to a series of meetings for collecting information and analyzing situation in relevance.
Furthermore, we add another staff to this team on 30th March.
Please stay tuned for more live and fresh report !!
